In the middle of the night, you hear a crash and jolt up in bed. Lights are burning in the sky outside your window. A siren cries out like a wild dog in the distance.\n\nScrambling to your feet, struggling in the dim light, you hurry outside of your room, where your sister stands gripping the stair railing.\n\n"Emmy!" You take her by the hand and take the stairs down two at a time. On the last step, an explosion shakes the city under you and you stagger, smashing your knee on the hard floor.\n\nEmmy turns, eyes wide, trying to help you up. "Jake, are you okay?"\n\n"I--[[I'm not]] sure. [[I think]]--"

Whether you're in the AK or the Droit, the most dangerous secret you can have is a belief.\n\nNobody knows about the journal you keep, and you know it's best to keep it that way.
In the middle of the night, you hear a crash and jolt up in bed. Lights are burning in the sky outside your window. A siren cries out like a wild dog in the distance.\n\nReaching toward the other body in the bed, you rouse him awake.\n\n"Sam--Sam, we have to get up--the sirens."\n\nHe looks up, confused, his eyes still clouded with sleep. "What?"\n\nYou're already on your feet. "We have to get up. The Droit are attacking the city."
You fight for true freedom. Death is no cost to you.\n\nMany perils exist that a member of the AK could face. You could be [[attacked]] by enemy soldiers, [[belittled]] for failing to compete with your peers, or [[ostracized]] for secret beliefs.
You pick yourself and run with Emmy to the door. Throwing it open, a terrible scene greets your eyes. Smoke rises in the distance in a dark cloud. Screams flood your ears as civilians rush by, trying to flee the city. Armadain is under attack.\n\nBare feet slapping on the pavement, a girl you know from school runs by. Seeing you, she pauses momentarily to cry: "[[Come on]], Jake! We're heading to the shelter!"\n\nBut a part of you isn't sure if the shelter is [[the safest place to be]].\n\n
Choose your side: Are you [[AK]] or [[Droit]]?
Living in the AK society can be particularly hard for someone who lacks skill. You've known this shameful feeling ever since you can recall--feeling so mediocre that you wonder if you really belong at a prestigious academy--feeling as though the friends you have are only friendly because they see ways to use you.\n\nYou're heading out of class one day with your friend Harris, who suddenly realizes he's forgotten a book in the classroom and runs back to get it. Waiting alone in the foyer, an unfriendly voice greets your ears.\n\n"Arman, marvelous. It's always spectacular to run into such mediocrity when others are trying to succeed."\n\nYou glare. It's Riaz. He's a top student and he knows it. You respect him for his math prowess, but you think he holds himself in a much higher standing than he deserves.\n\n"Riaz," you say. "I heard you scored second in the city's math-a-thon. Congratulations."\n\nHe scowls in response. "I wouldn't speak to me like that if I were you."\n\nYou smile because you love getting on his nerves. It'd probably be [[best not to provoke a fight]], but [[one more comment]] probably wouldn't hurt...\n\n
In an America torn by ideology, your choices create your path. Will you be a soldier of the Light and the Way? Or will you turn your back on the Holy Droit Empire and become a member of the AK? The [[choice]] is yours.
You are a soldier of the Light and the Way! Your loyalty resides in the Holy Droit Empire.\n\nMany perils exist that a member of the Droit could face. You could be attacked by [[enemy soldiers]], [[questioned]] for not seeming pious enough, or [[demonized]] for choosing a path deemed morally wrong.

Aftershock
A searing pain tears through your leg and you cry out. "Emmy--Emmy, I think I really hurt myself--get me something I can use as a crutch."\n\nNodding, your sister runs into a sideroom. You've no doubt she's resourceful, and you probably [[shouldn't move your leg]], but you [[can't just stay put]] when the city is burning to the ground.
